Joining the ALU

Joining the ALU as either a member or a corporate sponsor is a truly excellent contribution which you can make to supporting the Lisp community.

The ALU's activities currently include:

• hosting this website;

• organising the successful series of International Lisp Conferences;

• encouraging activity on a local level: sponsoring meetings, paying speakers' expenses, etc;

• providing resources for related activities.

It's very hard to do any of these without funds. The conferences generate all our income but also account for almost all of our expenditure (much of it months before we see the income, as venues require advance downpayments to secure the accomodation). Therefore:

• we are placed in a difficult and very risky position every time we hold a conference; and

• we cannot afford to have more than token expenditure on anything else.

We would like to become more financially secure, to be able to guarantee hosting future conferences, and to be in a position to extend our activities and take a much more proactive role in the promotion of Lisp.

We rely entirely on the Lisp community for income. Therefore your or your company's membership is very important to us. It will provide you with a stake in the ALU and it will provide the ALU with revenues for ongoing operations. We want to put Lisp on stage.
